Welcoming hackers to the blogsphere
November 27, 2007 | 4:39 pmI am a strong supporter of Wordpress, especially the .org one (where you install your blog onto your own website, like this one, this blog is on the www.astralmarketing.com website). There is also wordpress.com, where you have a blog hosted on wordpress’ website, so your blog address is usually http://www.YOURBLOGNAME.wordpress.com.
But whichever option we choose, it seems that hackers have caught up with us, and are using 3rd party themes to insert potentially malicious code into our blogs, so used for advertising purposes, but some can be used for more harmful stuff as well. Read this post for more detailed info. If you’re gonna go through the trouble of installing your own blog on your website and changing it’s theme, chances are, you know the code pretty well to have noticed any malicious info. This is maybe less true for those who have a hosted blog. Either way, for now, the best thing to do is be viligant, and always download a 3rd party theme from it’s original creator. I will keep on top of this issue to see how it progressed… and i’m off to go check my code!
