So Obama’s a sketchy, untrustworthy dude, huh?

October 31, 2008 | 12:22 pm

Fact 1: McCain reacts to a suddenly worsening financial crisis but halting his campaign. On the spur of the moment. For 1 day. He threatens to cancel a debate cuz he needs to save the financial world. Finally, he shows up at the debate anyway and resumes his campaign the next day.

Fact 2: McCain chooses his VP after meeting her once. He hoped she would get him additional female votes. She only solidified the base, while alienating all Hillary supporters since she didn’t stand for anything that Hillary supported.

Fact 3: Obama, a week before election, leaves his campaign to visit his sick grandmother, doesn’t make speeches about it, and returns quietly to the trail.

Fact 4: every day for 2 weeks now, McCain has a new reason why we shouldn’t vote for Obama: Ayers, ACORN, socialism, Khalidi. He tells us this a few weeks before we vote. 100% of what he says is why we SHOULDN’T vote for Obama. Yes, he tells us how he will do it, but it’s ALWAYS in contrast with how Obama does it.

Fact 5: Obama has stayed on message consistently for months, 70% of what he says is about what he will do for the country, irrelevant of McCain. 30% of the time, he talks about McCain, but with the same message, always: more Bush, more of the same.

You want to talk about personality? Up to you to judge who seems more stable, focused, consistent and with strong priorities, and who seems erratic, unfocused and grasping at straws. TRUST THE FACTS. GO VOTE.

It might be the economy, stupid, but the point is, none of us are ecomists

October 13, 2008 | 1:27 pm

Are you an economist? I’m not. And we’ve already established that I fell asleep in finance classes. So i’m in NO way qualified to understand the differences in stump messages between the Obama and the McCain campaigns when they talk about taxes, mortgages, and other economy issues. Are you?

In the last debate, when speaking about taxes, McCain said Obama would raise taxes. Obama said McCain would raise taxes. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO’S LYING? The truth is, they both are. They twist the truth to make a point. Today on CNN, i heard that in the past, BOTH McCain and Obama have voted for the highest tax increases in history.

As i mentioned before, it’s about how well each candidate convinces YOU that they will solve your problem. And so, if that’s the case, then it’s not about the economy, stupid, it’s about personality! It’s about how good they are at convincing you that their view on economy is better than the other’s. The truth is, neither will probably do anything that will ACTUALLY put more money in the average Joe-6-pack’s pocket.

This reminds me of Lou Dobbs’ favorite saying “Doesn’t anyone deserve a government that works?”. My answer: no, Lou, that’s the least of the candidate’s concern. You’re right, Lou, we should all be independants!

*Note to self* Must stop quoting Lou Dobbs, i don’t actually like the man!

Campaign Off, Campaign On… Say What?

September 26, 2008 | 12:20 pm

Oh, yeah, McCain’s halted campaign really was a heroic move!

  • Wed: big announcement, campaign on hold “until we agree on a bailout plan”, oh, and let’s cancel the debate…
  • Thurs: McCain is in DC, not in the bailout plan committee, nor bringing any useful info to the meeting with Bush
  • Fri: still no bailout plan, but McCain’s campaign back on, and debate back on too…

If this isn’t proof of how erratic this man is, then I don’t know what it. Just like Sarah Palin as choice of VP, he had met her ONCE before.

On a separate note: did you know that a Senator who’s been in a lengthy stay in hospital due to a brain hemorrhage, has still managed to put in more Senate votes than McCain???? Ok, granted, Obama is no3 on the most missed Senate votes after McCain and brain-hemorrhage-guy, but still… Anyway, thanks to Stonecipher for the info!

Yeah, yeah, i know, i said i’d stop ranting about McCain. I will. In fact, I want to address Obama’s faults too, and I will, in my next post. In fact, one of the comments on Stonecipher’s post states that everything us pro-Obama folk say is always assuming “…Guilty until proven innocent. If that’s the attitude you want to take towards politicians, fine, so long as you bring the same skepticism to bear on both candidates.”… totally agreed.

Country First? Don’t Lie to Me, McCain!

September 25, 2008 | 10:16 am

McCain’s main slogan is “Country First”. Ok, can you then explain to me why, a man who puts his country first, would offer his country someone like Sarah Palin as an alternative to him, should he pass away?

Seriously, Palin? That’s the best he found?

  1. Foreign Relations Experience: she sees Russia from her window, and she got her first passport sometime last year so she could visit Kuwait (ah, yes, most important that we visit our buddies in the Middle East that have those oil we so depend on).
  2. Economy Experience: she thinks that the point of the bailout package is to encourage health reforms… oh, and she ACTUALLY approved the road to nowhere (the one that was supposed to lead to the bridge of the same name) for $223 million in federal funding: this road, ladies and gentlemen, is actually 3 miles of road, with no stops in the middle, and that leads you to a dead end!!
  3. General Experience: none, in fact, McCain has no faith in her abilities whatsoever, he won’t let her speak to the press (why? because they were so mean to her the first time around, boo-hoo!), he won’t let the press hear what she says in her 7-minutes with each world leader a few days back (in a few minutes, you’ve hardly gotten past “how old are your children” with Karzai or “waow, you’re so gorgeous i could hug you” with Zardari of Pakistan).

Oh, and way to go, McCain, did you really think she was gonna get you the woman vote? She’s the one who doesn’t even think that an abortion is justified EVEN in cases of rape or incest. Even McCain thinks it’s justified in those cases!

Don’t kid yourself, people, this man is erratic and makes decisions on the fly: Sarah Palin was one of those decisions, just like the decision to stop his campaign so he could “heroically” work on the bailout plan. Did i mention he’s not even ON the committee that’s working on it? All he’s doing is using his Washington connections to push Republicans into approving the plan… Hearing the news this morning, it’s not been very successful though.

This is a joke. Wake up people!! This is, I hope my last rant on McCain. From now on, all my energy (thought, writing) will be put into supporting Obama.

My first boycott

April 15, 2008 | 4:00 pm

Well, i never considered myself an anarchist, but here you have it. I’m boycotting something. I’m boycotting CNN. Their tag line is “the most trusted name in news”. Seriously? How can we trust you, if you refuse to acknowledge that there are other countries out there. Dear CNN, did you know that the world does not, actually, revolve around the USA? That there are a few billion of us who don’t actually give a damn if we miss yet another Obama/Clinton debate? That taking a break from reporting on the primaries to spend 7 days talking about the New York governor’s affair is not actually good news reporting?

I used to fervently believe that Obama was the best democratic choice. Politics used to fascinate me. And now, CNN has single-handedly managed to turn me off politics. Maybe it’s cuz i’m generation X and i have the attention span of a goldfish, but seriously, a contest that lasts over 6 months, really, i promise you, looses steam very, very quickly.

Here is my plea to CNN, in the name of cosmopolitanism. We live on Earth. Earth is comprised of many countries. Each country, believe it or not, has newsworthy events. In order to up the awareness and IQ of your people, reporting on what is happening in other countries might actually be a good thing. Oh, and then, if you even spend just 10 minutes per hour reporting on what else is happening around the world, well then, maybe you could make a bold claim like being “the most trusted name in news”… And no, good looking anchors like Anderson Cooper not longer dissipate my anger.

But what makes me so mad (you know, like even MADDER than i was in the paragraph above!), and, unfortunately, i can’t really blame it on CNN, is the fact that i feel like we’re the only ones to see that the longer the democrats fight it out, the more power they’re giving to the republicans. I made a prediction on this blog a few months back, and i continue to maintain it. At the time, there were other democratic candidates, and i had said, if either Hillary or Obama get the nomination, then i guarantee the next POTUS will be a republican. I still believe that. Only time will tell, but in this case, pleeeease can time just hurry the hell up?
